Wentworth Golf Club, located in Virginia Water, Surrey, is a prestigious private golf and country club. Founded in 1922, it’s globally renowned for its three 18-hole championship courses: the East, West, and Edinburgh.
The legendary Harry Colt designed both the East (1924) and West (1926) courses. The West Course, famously nicknamed “Burma Road” for its challenging nature, has been the long-standing home of the BMW PGA Championship, a flagship event on the European Tour. It also hosted the Ryder Cup in 1953 and the World Match Play Championship for many years.
The East Course, while shorter, offers a classic heathland experience. The more recent Edinburgh Course, opened in 1990 and designed by John Jacobs with input from Gary Player and Bernard Gallacher, provides a different yet equally engaging challenge. Wentworth’s rich history, iconic courses, and status as a major tournament venue firmly establish its place among the world’s elite golf destinations.
